On Sunday night Brendan and I popped over to Brixton to see Yellowcard play at the O2 Academy. We’ve both really liked their music for a number of years but the band took a break about 3 years ago and hasn’t been touring until recently, so we haven’t had a chance to see them playing live yet. When we heard they were supporting All Time Low (who, admittedly, we’d never heard of), we grabbed tickets straight away so we wouldn’t miss out.
Unfortunately, Brendan and I were both unwell on Sunday, and Brendan had been sick a number of times in the afternoon. We decided to go anyway, arriving just before Yellowcard came on stage, and leaving immediately after their set had finished. We were sitting in the upper circle and found seats about halfway back. Once Yellowcard started we completely forgot how ill we felt and just enjoyed some of our favourite songs being played by amazingly talented musicians. For me, one of the things that sets Yellowcard apart from other rock bands is the addition of a violin in their music; it was really different seeing a guy with an electric violin on stage, and the sound was incredible!
They finished with their biggest hit, ‘Ocean Avenue’, which I filmed for a minute or so; you can watch it below. Enjoy!
