You may have noticed that I haven’t been blogging for some time now – it’s not because I’m pregnant (although thanks Greg for helpfully offering to start that rumour) or that I’ve become lazy. In fact, it’s far more exciting than either of those reasons: we’ve moved into our own apartment (and have only just got wi-fi sorted)! For anyone who’s known me for the past 8 months or so, you’ll understand how exciting this is for us, as our first experience of shared housing was not such a pleasant one.
Here are just some of the reasons (by no means exhaustive) why I’m glad we’re out of our old place:
– there will be clean dishes in the kitchen (unless we don’t clean them, in which case it’s our own fault)
– we won’t be woken at 3am with someone drunkenly smashing a wooden door
– we can have guests over
– we don’t have to commute for an hour on 3 tubes
– we can walk around without fear of having to talk to a psychotic housemate
– no one will throw out all of our food in a vain attempt to ‘clean’ the freezer
– there will not be a constant, extra-loud dialogue in Chinese from the people next door
– I won’t have to hold my breath before opening the fridge door
Some reasons (well, OK, I could only think of one) why I’m sad to be out of our old place:
– Le Petit Boulanger: this French bakery/patisserie is by far the most noteworthy food destination in Clapham. The bread is delicious and the pastries divine; there’s always something new and delicious to try (last weekend it was a strawberry, frangipane and cointreau croissant -yum!). They also serve some of the best coffee around…I honestly don’t understand why anyone would choose to go to the Starbucks on the next block! There are always fresh flowers on the tables and fleece blankets for when it gets a bit chilly, and the staff are very friendly, despite having been up since some ridiculously early hour to bake! I know I will be making special trips back to Abbeville Road to get my Le Petit fix, and if you’re ever in the area, this is one place worth going out of your way to find…
Follow Le Petit Boulanger on Twitter for regular updates.
